Read Call Transcripts to Keep Up

One excellent way to keep up with what’s going on in the home building industry is to read the transcripts from the public builders’ various investors calls and presentations.

Under the Fair Disclosure law, public companies are required to make material information available to all shareholders at the same time. As a result, most public companies, including home builders, release transcripts of their presentations and conference calls.

Reading these transcripts can give you insights on what’s happening within each company as well as more broadly across the industry. In the transcripts of the quarterly earnings calls, my favorite part is the question and answer section as there you can see which trends are causing Wall Street analysts to have the most concern and you can often pick up some interesting information on performance metrics and regional trends not necessarily included in the official filings and releases.

At HousingIntelligence, we make it easy to get access to these transcripts. Our news feed engine through Lexis-Nexis picks up all new Fair Disclosure filings for builders within 24 hours of release.

In fact, because of April being a major month for earnings reports, the Builder News section has several recent call transcripts from builders like Standard Pacific, Ryland, M/I Homes, Meritage, Pulte, and Beazer.
