Nothing reveals that better than a question regarding what they would be willing to accept for a less expensive home. Across all respondents, the number one choice is to opt for unfinished spaces in the home. Another significant finding is that consumers are not willing to accept inferior quality, defined as less expensive materials, to make a home more affordable. The tradeoffs preferred vary significantly by our consumer groups. For example, Entry Level home buyers would prefer a longer commute or a location further from shopping and entertainment and services over a smaller home. Feature and Location home buyers are just the opposite. True to their profile, these buyers would accept everything but cheaper materials over having a longer commute or being further from services. Understanding what home buyers strongly prefer as well as what they are willing to sacrifice are keys to producing well-targeted homes and communities. Our Consumer Group methodology provides an easy-to-understand foundation to provide research insights and focus for developers and builders of all sizes to focus on and successfully attract and convert buyers. |
