The price for any good or service is determined by its supply and demand. Whether buying a Coke at 7-Eleven or a gallon of gas at Exxon Mobil, one knows the product and its value. If you buy a share of stock in either company, your investment’s value is based on what other market participants are willing to pay or receive for that share. It has little to do with their thirst or need for gas.
